Who We Are

Urban Storm has been a pioneer of new outdoor media and media technologies since 1989.  Our DNA/Ethos is to increase yields for Media Owners and Landlords, whilst lowering operational costs. If you are developing new outdoor media in the UK, we are probably involved. The UK is setting the global standards that we see rolling out everywhere now. It is our combined DOOH activities here in the UK that has driven the Global Expenditure to Digital assets to the 50% you see. In the UK, we currently represent 80% of all agency spend that’s going into digital assets.

We were the second company in Europe to wrap a building with advertising using a giant digitally printed poster during building refurbishments. Not only did we source digital printing from the USA to enable this – as the technology was not yet there to do so – we continued to wrap buildings throughout Europe up to 2008 for our international clients until the company was sold with sites in over 15 countries.

During this period, we also were the first to introduce large-format PVC digital printing to the UK Out-of-Home advertising contractors such as: Clear Channel, JCDecaux, Van Wagner, Mills & Allen, More O Farrell, Ströer, to name but a few.  As UK sole agent for the innovative printing company Metro Media Technologies Inc, based out of Los Angeles, we promoted their unique printing system from 1990 – 1997.  As the print side of the business expanded, we also signed a sole agency agreement for a PVC tensioning system from Prismaflex International in France. They primarily manufactured Backlit Light Boxes and Frames for the outdoor advertising industry, point of sale, exhibition and the construction industry; this enabled the changing of posters very quickly.  We assisted this company in three of their most successful product launches: Tri Visions, Scrollers and giant wall banners installed from the ground.

Why Urban Storm?

From a wealth of practical experience from being a media owner and the printing and installations of giant posters, Urban Storm was registered with our own worldwide Patents from 2000 onwards. Primarily, the Patents are for applying tension to giant posters, which superseded the French system in all respects. We have also developed a comprehensive product range of Backlit Light Boxes, LEDs and Frames for all the outdoor type industries. Urban Storm is the sole agent in the UK for the leading LED manufacturer, supplying all the leading media owners with LED displays throughout the UK for the last fifteen years. We are often asked by UK contractors to solve problems that no one else will or can and that has expanded our supply chain – enabling us to stay on the leading edge of change.

Our media consultation includes siting locations for LED walls and billboards for clients such as Westfield shopping malls and British Airports Authority, whom we successfully launched into the digital world across many of their UK airports and shopping malls across the UK. When we are involved with the media owners and landlords at an early stage, we can assist with the Landlord negotiations as part of our turnkey solutions package. We also do this from the Landlord’s perspective to get them the maximum revenues possible from the sites. We assist with site locating, sizing and specifying the correct technology for the specific location requirements, depending on whom contacts us first is how we manage through the whole process. We have had a lot of success across, Heathrow, Gatwick, Glasgow, Manchester and, of course, also supply JCDecaux or the incoming media owner. We have also worked with Network Rail and TFL to assist them to reorganise their portfolio, while also assisting them to tender the new portfolio of sites to media owners such as JCDecaux and Global etc.  We successfully transformed 357 ultra-large-format panels, such as the UK 48’s & 96’s, on time and within budget for Network Rail, who then handed back the portfolio to JCDecaux to manage sales. They received a much higher yield than previously.
